Eco-Products' Greenstripe cups are marketed as eco-friendly, but they're made from PLA, a corn-based bioplastic. PLA only breaks down in an industrial composting facility. Most places don't have one, so in a backyard, a bin, or the ground, it behaves like plastic and can leave microplastics behind.

Biodegradable is the part that matters Compostable depends on a facility. Biodegradable doesn't. Nothing breaks down on its own, in soil, water, or a backyard bin, no facility required.
